PASMA: Majority of Ontarians want elected trustees; Ford government must stop this power grab

OTTAWA – Chandra Pasma, the Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Education, is calling on the Ford government to listen to the people of Ontario and withdraw Bill 33 after another poll shows most people do not support Ford’s plan to eliminate trustees.

“It’s clear that no one is being fooled by the premier’s games. Parents and communities know that Ford’s power grab is an attack on their rights to have a say in local schools, not a solution to years of funding cuts. They don’t want Ford’s hand-picked supervisors calling the shots, they want transparent and accountable representation.

“Parents know that the real solution for our schools starts with replacing the $6 billion Doug Ford has cut from our schools. Taking away the voice of parents and communities in our education system is just an attempt by this government to dodge any accountability for their poor and short-sighted decisions.

“When will Ford and Calandra finally listen to the people of Ontario? It's time for them to stop the political games, respect the rights of parents, and invest in our kids.”
